Sobrato House

Sobrato House

Location: 496 South 3rd Street, San Jose
Units: 10 emergency beds, 4 transitional units, and 5 units for City Year Housing
Estimated Completion: December 2007

When San Jose’s new City Hall displaced Our House from its home of nine years, EHC LifeBuilders and its partners had to come up with a suitable replacement. These efforts resulted in a carefully crafted plan for a model facility that includes shelter, transitional housing and a multi-service center at a new location. Once this new location is open, Our House will be renamed Sobrato House.

The new facility will be three stories and almost 16,000 square feet, and it will include an underground parking garage. The design carefully integrates and renovates the historic Grenninger house, which will be moved from its current site and incorporated into the new construction in early 2007.
