Emergency Shelter Programs

The following programs offer emergency shelter. Stays range from nightly to monthly.

Cold Weather Shelter Program

NOTE:The armories are open the Monday after Thanksgiving through March 31. For information when the armories are closed, please call 408-294-2100 x200.
Locations: 620 E. Maude Avenue, Sunnyvale, 408-739-6980 / 8940 Wren Avenue, Gilroy, 408-847-8455.
Serves: Anyone in need
Our Cold Weather Shelter Program operates seasonally out of two National Guard armories. These sites provide life-saving temporary shelter, nutritious meals, and access to health care and other basic needs assistance.

The Haven

Location: 937 Locust Street, San Jose, 408-539-2174
Serves: Households displaced by fire or other disasters
The Haven offers respite for victims of natural disaster. This program is a partnership between EHC LifeBuilders and the City of San Jose.

James F. Boccardo Regional Reception Center

Location: 2011 Little Orchard Street, San Jose, 408-294-2100
Serves: Single adults
The Boccardo Reception Center offers year-round emergency shelter with basic needs support, including meals, access to health care and other supportive services. This site also offers transitional housing and day services to homeless veterans.

John H. Boccardo Family Living Center

Location: 13545 Monterey Road, San Martin, 408-686-1300
Serves: Families with children
The Boccardo Family Living Center provides emergency shelter from December through March, as well as the supportive services needed to find long-term housing. This facility also offers transitional and migrant farm worker housing.

Our House

Location: 31 N. 5th Street, San Jose, 408-298-2660
Serves: Youth ages 11-17
Our House serves homeless, runaway, and throwaway youth. On-site emergency shelter is available to minors. Basic needs assistance, support, and referrals to other services are available to youth ages 11 to 21, at the site’s multi-service center. Day services (2pm to 8pm, with 24 hour access by phone) include assistance with clinical and non clinical counseling, employment, legal issues, housing search, meals and grocery bags, access to phone and mail, workshops, bus passes, medical care, clothing and other emergency items.
