The 14th annual Rivers of Chocolate Festival, benefiting EHC LifeBuilders, will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2010, from 1 to 5 pm at the Mountain Winery, Saratoga, California.

Proceeds from the event benefit EHC LifeBuilders, providing vital shelter and services for homeless individuals and families in Silicon Valley.

In 14 years, Rivers of Chocolate has established itself as the premier chocolate tasting event in Northern California. Each year finds additional chocolatiers and restaurateurs creating confections to fit the theme.

The guests, many of whom come year after year, delight in the rich chocolate creations, savory delights and award-winning wines, prepared and donated by leading chocolatiers, chefs and vintners. Guests are treated to music, cooking demonstrations, and a live auction.

What is the Rivers of Chocolate Festival?

The 14th Annual Rivers of Chocolate Festival is a fundraising event benefiting the programs of EHC LifeBuilders—the leading provider of housing, hope, and opportunity for homeless adults, families and children in Santa Clara County. It's an opportunity for some of the best Bay Area restaurateurs, chocolatiers, wineries and other participants to show off their talent! The festival enables you to taste some amazing chocolate, pastries, hors d'oeuvres, ice cream, gelato, wine, beer, and spirits - all while supporting a good cause. There will also be live music, and a live and silent auction.

What can I expect when I arrive? What happens at the festival?

When you arrive, you'll receive a wine glass that is yours to use throughout the event and take home as a souvenir (please remember this is your wineglass, so hang on to it.*). You’ll also receive a program that will guide you through the event. You may want to see what the participants are offering, then begin sampling the culinary delights and wines. Be sure to peruse the many silent auction items while you listen to live music. And then there's the live auction as well. Don't miss it!

*Your first wine glass is on us, should you need an additional one, they’ll be available for purchase.

How can I pay for auction items?

You can pay by credit card, check or with cash. Most items will be available for you to take when you leave.

Can I bring my children to Rivers of Chocolate?

This event is more appropriate for adults. As this is a fundraising event, each attendee must have a ticket for entry. An infant can accompany a parent.

Can I bring my dog, cat, or other pet to Rivers of Chocolate?

No animals are allowed.

How can I get tickets? How much are they?

Tickets may be purchased online or by phone – (408) 539–2103. We offer a special chocolate lovers discounted ticket for $85 through February 28th. Beginning March 1st, tickets are $95.

Discounted tickets are available for police, firefighters, teachers and participating churches for $75.

Is the price of admission tax deductible?

Although Rivers of Chocolate is completely underwritten by its sponsors, the IRS requires us to calculate a fair market value for the tickets and anything over that can be deducted. The tax deduction for the ticket price is anything in excess of $50. For example, if you got a Chocolate Lovers Discounted ticket for $85, the deduction is $35; if you bought a full-price ticket for $95, the deduction is $45.

Will I need to pay for parking at The Mountain Winery?

Yes. The Mountain Winery will be charging $5 for parking.
