Learning assistant (children’s tutoring)

Learning Assistants are responsible for meeting with students either on a one-on-one basis or in small groups. Learning assistants may choose to:

  • Tutor in reading, writing, mathematics, and science, or in study skills
  • Work on independent living skills, social skills, or career exploration
  • Lead activities such as arts and crafts or recreation
  • Share hobbies, interests, and skills

Learning assistants work closely with a project specialist and site staff to better understand student needs and to facilitate activities. They serve as role models to demonstrate a positive attitude, self respect and respect for others, and enthusiasm for learning.

If you're interested in becoming a leaning assistant, you should have the ability to relate to children or youth and respect their uniqueness. You should exhibit common sense, patience, a sense of humor, friendliness, sensitivity, and responsibility. You should also have basic knowledge in math, reading, and writing, or a desire to help children or youth in one of the other areas listed above. You must be at least 18 to work independently or at least 14 if accompanied by an adult. The minimum commitment required is two hours per week for six months.

This is a wonderful opportunity to provide a pleasant atmosphere for our employees and guests.
